The VATICAN

The Vatican City is a state by itself with its own postal service, currency (which i didn't get to see) newspaper, radio station and army of Swiss Guards wearing this sets of comical uniform. The security control was pretty tight with no metal object allowed in what so ever. The German guy in my room had his swiss knife thrown into the dustbin and told that he could look into the dustbin when he came out. He did and we found a bin full of forks, spoons etc. The Vatican has St Pietro's Cathedral, the largest and the most famous church in the world with lots of masterpieces by Raphael, Michealangelo and Bernini dated few thousands years. Despite my disinclination towards arts, i must admit that the Vatican has one of the best pieces of ancient arts in the world so it's a must whenever you come to Rome.

I managed to get in to see the Pope and i was like about 2m away from him. People were reaching out and groping him as he passes by. He was so old that he could hardly climb the few steps and i couldn't figure out what he was saying in English either. It was quite cool because there were delegations from different countries paying respect to the Pope so when called, they all stood up, made some noise and sing a song. There were people from Slovakia, France, USA and Croatia just to name a few.

I paid an additional 1000 lires to take the lift up to the top of St Pietro's Cathedral instead of taking the stairs and trust me it was worth it. The top view of Rome was beautiful, and when i was taking a picture with Carmen's mice up there, it dropped from my bag but luckily i was able to retrieve it back. Just an interesting fact, there were toilets on top of the Cathedral for people to do business up there which i found really intriguing considering that it is the most sacred place of the Christian society.

A REAL mummy in the Vatican Museum.

The ceiling of Michealangelo's Hall in the Vatican museum. It was mighty
impressive as the whole Hall was covered by his artworks, from the ceilings
to the walls, the doors and the windows. A great sight!
